This paperback text was selected for the narrated and interactive learning diskette that comes with your text as well as web enhanced features which interact with Blackboard. It is the better and more succinct written version of a much larger and pricier Global Marketing Text. Using your text book’s CD-ROM: Load your CD-ROM from your text and click start button on you D drive. Check the text’s talking pwt presentations that cover several chapters at a time. After each chapter take the short exams that are graded for you. They should reflect on how well you will do on my in-class exams. Your instructor has discounted student subscription rates. Hard copies are preferable and can be shared with others, the library is another source as is the internet – but unless you subscribe the internet only provides top news stories and not detailed articles. COURSE DESCRIPTION: Marketing is defined as a managerial and relational process by which goods and services are brought from the manufacturer or producer into the hands of the user or consumer. Marketing also manages relationships for the long-term implementation of the Marketing Concept versus the short term goals of the organization. Marketing management is involved with the planning, implementation, and control of this marketing process. Managerial applications of key marketing concepts and principles differ among organizations, as well as for the individual marketing and sales managers. Particular emphasis will be made to identify the variety of principles marketing managers implement in reaction to their perceived and real environment. COURSE GOALS: This course is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the marketing process - both theoretical and contemporary. Marketing planning and decision-making will be examined from the firm and consumer point of view. The course is designed to have you apply what you learn in your text about marketing principles and concepts to current business examples gleaned from the business press using the WSJ and Business Week publications. You will also be presented with numerous marketing terms and classifications useful in understanding what comprises Marketing in business. COURSE OBJECTIVES: Clearly identify, interpret and communicate Marketing principles and concepts from recent business news sources both in written form and class discussion. See assignment specific to identifying these (8) principles and concepts. Demonstrate a command of marketing terminologies and classifications through regularly assigned exams. See grading policies for more details. COURSE PREPARATION: Please make friends and get class notes. Class time will be given to make connections. Specific details will be covered in each class that will help you pass the exams. GRADING POLICY: Grading is based on four exams of approximately 50 questions and short essays plus five analytical assignments worth 40 pts apiece. Assignments must be typed and submitted on that day for class discussion. Five points for your resume (acceptable format) 5 pts 20 points BW article assignment due week two w/ resume 20 pts Exam 1 = 150pts, #2 = 150, #3 = 200, #4 = 225 725 pts Any 5 of 8 assignments @ 40 pts each 200 pts assignments 2 documentaries with in class discussion 25pts @ 50 w. in class discussions Grades are based on 90% + is an A: 80 to 89% : B etc. Based on summation of all grades earned No plus or minus grades are given in this class.
