Fallon Bourque April 8th, 2008 EDTC 100: D Philosophy of Education With times changing faster than we can imagine teachers must be ready to learn new concepts and ideas almost at a daily rate. In order for students to maintain a steady incline in education both students and teachers must be prepared to be lifelong learners. A lifelong learner is someone who applies new knowledge and skills to extend ways of learning and teaching. Teaching and learning is so important in every aspect of life. Without teachers our society would never advance. Teachers prepare our youth to eventually run the nation, with this great of a task teachers should be well prepared to keep up with technological and modern advance that change at an ongoing rate. In order to successfully teach, one much continue to learn. An educator has a much bigger priority to their students than just the education material at hand. A teacher must provide a student with feelings of accomplishment and self-esteem. A teacher-student relationship should be a bond between two people. A student should feel comfortable around their teacher in order to perform academic achievements. A teacher should care about their student’s well-being and give individualized attention in order to help each individual student excel. Teachers should form a relationship with each individual student and hope to make each student feel important and successful by catering to each individual needs as much as possible. Any teacher who thinks they have the perfect way to teach and knows everything they need to know about teaching is doing themselves and their students a big injustice. A teacher should always be searching for new ways to further their knowledge and should expand their teaching method accordingly. A good teacher should be able to account for both failures and successes and use the reflection of their own teaching methods to achieve a higher level of greatness. A reflective practitioner must identify the work they are most passionate about, identify the practices that lead to their highest performance, and the aspects of their past experiences that can get in the way. Any teacher that takes their job serious should always look for new and better ways to teach. In order to teach one must continue to learn. Technology is such a vast part of our society and is becoming a greater part of it every minute. Technology offers teachers new ways to integrate hands on learning with visual and auditory aides. With the use of modern technology materials can be available to students outside the classroom around the clock. Technology in the classroom offers teachers a means to educate and entertain students simultaneously. This method of teaching makes it easy to combine text, graphics, sound, video, and animation making learning overall a more enjoyable experience. Technology should play a large roll in teaching and learning today, however we must keep a personal touch to allow student interaction between one another and the teacher. There will always be technical problems at sometime with any technology one may use, no matter how sophisticated it may seem. Teachers should not rely on technology to be their creativity or soul teaching method. Lesson plans should be compiled of a multitude of different methods of which to teach. Learners should be well prepared for the ongoing changes around them with the help of teachers. In order to teach one must continue to learn.
