POWERGRID Receives Maharatna Status from the Indian Government, Translations of Physics

Powergrid, the third largest transmission company globally, has been conferred with the maharatna status by the indian government on 23rd october, 2019. This status provides enhanced powers to the board of powergrid to expand operations in domestic and global markets. With a transmission network of over 160,930 ckm and 248 substations, powergrid has consistently maintained an average transmission system availability of over 99.5%. The company is currently executing several transmission projects for grid integration of renewable energy projects.

This was announced yesterday by Honā€™ble Union Minister of State (I/C) for Power, New & Renewable Energy) Shri R.K. Singh ji at the 30th Raising Day Celebrations of the Company in New Delhi. The Maharatna status provides enhanced powers to the Board of POWERGRID to facilitate expansion of operations, both in domestic as well as global markets. POWERGRID, the third largest CPSE in India is also the third largest transmission company globally. It has been recognised as ā€˜Fastest Growing Electric Utility in Asia Pacificā€™ successively for the last six years, since 2014. As on Sept.30, 2019, its transmission network included more than 160,930 ckm of transmission lines, 248 Sub-stations with transformation capacity of more than 383,270 MVA on a consolidated basis. With the use of state-of-the-art maintenance techniques, automation and digitization, POWERGRID has consistently maintained an average transmission system availability of more than 99.5%. The Company is currently executing several transmission projects for grid integration of Renewable Energy projects forming part of Govt. of Indiaā€™s plans of establishing 175GW of RE generation capacity by 2022.
