JUDISM Religilogical- Epistemology- The TaNaKh, the Hebrew Bible composed around 1000 BCE and has 3 sections. The first is the Torah teaching with Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. The next is Nevi’im the book of prophets and Ketuvim writings or proverbs. Also the Zohar and Rabbinic texts Talmud, Midrash, and Mishnah. Also through spiritual experience like meditation and prophets. Ontology- The physical world is real and the world is god’s creation. God is the ultimate reality with qualities. - Theology- God’s general qualities shown at the exodus, god is supremely powerful, goodness and love and his concern for humanity produces intervention and saving of the Jews from slavery with the covenant. Also their ultimate reality is keeping the Covenant. -Cosmology- The world of the spirit, world beyond out conception. The physical world is real. World is god’s creation and reflects God’s glory. World is very good, nothing is intrinsically wrong with the world. Want to bring the world back in harmony with the covenant to transform the world to be sacred. Need to keep covenant. Sacralize and re-align the world with the will of god. -Eschatology- The world to come, prepare for the messianic age. Anointed kings, prophets and saints bring about this time when they think things will be right. Judgment and eternal life in the world to come. Anthropology- Believe we were created by god in his image, humans reflect god and humans are limited, frail, great and sinful, humans have free will, humans are god’s beloved creation. Born into sin and can be resisted through free will. God is nurturing us weather we know it or not. We possess the right to rule the world. Prophets communicate God’s messages, they call attention to injustices. Jewish identity if your mother is Jewish you are, faith belief in one god. Create nationhood Israel to develop a greater sense of pride and prevent the dying out of the Jewish culture. Psychology- Your intellect is to discern good from evil and your heart and soul is the love and desire for god and your spirit is to serve God. More elaborated in Kabbalah, 3 components of soul Neshama, Ruach, Nefesh. States of consciousness fear of evil possible but not necessary, we have both good and evil impulses with the point to choose good with your free will. Teleology- Their purpose or meaning of life is to keep and fulfill the covenant, there is a need to realign the world with God’s will, and the whole world reflects God. Part of the purpose is to purify our image son that we more truly reflect being created in God’s image and reflecting his beautiful qualities. We should strive to become more aware of God’s presence in our lives as another purpose of our lives. Be righteous, follow God’s commandments. To prepare the world for the messianic age, to endure god’s tests and to worship in spite of the tests. Methodology- The way of life that leads to attainment is working for the Security of Israel. Another is to live righteously, follow God’s commandments and other aspects like keeping kosher. To live piously, sacralize life. See all life’s joys as coming from god, need to be aware of the Lord’s presence. Need to maintain worship and study and do the high holy days. Live studiously and enjoy life because life is a gift created by god. Keep society from breaking down and to prepare the world for the messianic age.
