Electrical Engineering: Resonance and Impedance of RLC Circuits - Prof. Arthur La Porta, Lab Reports of Physics

Information on the impedance and resonance behavior of rlc circuits. It includes the definitions and symbols for resistors, capacitors, inductors, and their corresponding impedances. The document also explains the relationship between voltage and current in different phases and the phase change that occurs during resonance.

Question 1 Vo Component Impedence Resistor R Inductor ωL Capacitor 1/ωC ω(0)=1/sqrt(LC) Question 2 Component Voltage Resistor RImax Inductor Iω(0)L Capacitor I/ω(0)C Question 3 (a) The voltage and current are in phase. (b) The voltage and current are out of phase by pi/2 radians. c) The voltage and cureent are out of phase by -pi/2 radians. Question 4 There is a phase change when going through resonance because at frequencies below resonance, the impedance of the current is dominated by the conrtibution of the capacitor which causes the the phase of the voltage to fall behind. At resonance, the capacitor and inductor's contributions cancel making the phase shift 0 and at frequencies above resonance the voltage is ahead of the current because the inductor responds when the current changes sign. The sum of the voltages does not add up to the driving voltage because the capacitor cancels the voltage across the inductor since they are 180° out of phase with each other.
