Objectives: With the aid of the power point presentation and video presented by the teacher, the chemistry students are expected to: 1. enumerate the importance of laboratory safety precautions, and 2. identify the different safety precautions. II. Instructions A. Read and answer the following questions. 1. What are the importance of Laboratory safety precautions? “% Laboratory safety precautions are necessary because caustic and toxic materials, volatile solvents, high- pressure gases, explosive compounds, and deadly bacteria can all be found in a laboratory. Laboratory disasters can be avoided with a little caution and following to safety requirements. 2. What are the first thing to do in the event of an accident in the laboratory? What about a fire? % Call the security hotline or activate the nearest fire alarm. To keep the fire contained, close the doors. Do not use the lift; instead, evacuate to a safe spot or depart the building via the stairway. Assist emergency responders with someone who is familiar with the incident and the laboratory. We have to do something. Maintain a calm and quiet demeanor while gathering information and assessing the issue. 3. A mercury thermometer breaks in the laboratory. What should be done? “% Put your gloves on. If there are any shards of glass or sharp items, pick them up carefully. All damaged items should be placed on a paper towel. Place the folded paper towel in a zip-lock bag. 4. How would you respond to a burning sensation of your hands after being in a laboratory? “% Remove the heat source with cool water or ice packs until the tissue around the burn feels normal.
