Solution Assignment No.1 Leadership and Team Management (MGMT623) “Green Revolution” is one of the leading fertilizer production companies in Pakistan, having three production units in Lahore, Karachi and Faisalabad. The production unit in Faisalabad is considered as “backward” in terms of productivity. There are many problems associated with the unit, like high turnover rates, dissatisfaction of the workers and strong worker’s union; threatening and imposing their will over management. When situation in the unit became more serious and out of control for Unit Manager, the higher management decided to transfer Mr. Adeel as Unit Manager to Faisalabad. He was considered as simple, friendly, caring but uncompromising regarding issues and very straight forward. Above all, the unit under his management was running smoothly and efficiently as a result of his leadership qualities. After taking charge, Mr. Adeel met with Union representatives and workers and got knowledge about the issues they were having and also about how they were demoralized by the previous management by adopting “carrot and stick” policies. He assured them that he will look into their problems and promised them to resolve the issues within his jurisdiction. Mr. Adeel began with empowering the workers and minimizing the supervisor’s role. He also made long term goals and formulated strategies to restore the pride and self esteem of the workers along with incentives and benefit offerings. It resulted in good performance of the workers and exemplary worker- management relations. Eventually the said production unit was declared as “The Best Production Unit” after two years. After analyzing the above scenario, Q.1: Identify the leadership approach adopted by Mr. Adeel. (Marks 5) Answer: Mr. Adeel adopted “Participative Leadership”. Participative leaders accept suggestions and welcome ideas for managing the operations from the employees. They give more responsibility and independence to the front-line workers. The Participative leaders predominantly coach the team members, collaborate with them and negotiate their demands. docsity.com
