A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 9 Content Standard: The learners demonstrate an understanding of the projectile motion, impulse and momentum, and conservation of linear momentum. I. Learning Outcomes/Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to: a. Define and identify the factors that affects momentum and impulse; b. Relate impulse and momentum to collision of objects (e.g., vehicular collision) [S9FE - IVb -36] and; c. Appreciate the importance of understanding the causes and effects of collision-related damages/injuries by citing real life situations. II. Subject Matter: a. Values Integration: To become aware of the importance of the road sign indicating the speed limit to be warned and guided to any collision-related damages/injuries. III. Lesson Proper/ Procedure A. Preliminary Activities Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity i. Opening Prayer Good morning, everyone! Let’s start our day with a morning prayer. Who wants to lead the prayer? In equation, p = mv where: p = is the momentum m = is the mass v = is the velocity For stationary objects where the velocity is zero, the momentum is also zero. Is it clear? (One student will read.) Now, the question is how would you stop a moving object? Precisely, to stop a moving object, it is necessary to apply a force against its motion for a period of time. The greater the momentum of an object, the harder for it to stop. As the force acts upon the object for a given amount of time, the object's velocity is changed; and hence, the object's momentum is changed. Thus, Anyone who has an idea about the given formula? Very good! Simply, impulse is the amount of force you apply for a certain amount of time to cause a change in momentum. In physics, the quantity Force • time is known as impulse. And since the quantity m•v is the momentum, the quantity m• v mustΔ be the change in momentum. The equation really says that the Impulse = Change in momentum Impulse is a term that quantifies the Ma’am, I think you should apply some force. Ma’am, the applied force multiplied by the change of time is equal to the mass multiplied by the change of velocity. overall effect of a force acting over time. It is conventionally given the symbol J, and expressed in Newton- seconds. In equation, J = Ft where: J = is the impulse F = is the force t = is the time So, take note of these quantities and equations because next time we will solve some problems. iii.
