Haley Pole 10/28/08 EDTC 100-V1 PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION Commitment to life-long learning  Life-long learning is a continuous process of learning new things throughout life at all ages. Life-long learning can take place not only through school, but through work, friends, and other activities.  Life-long learning is important because if you do not learn new skills everyday, you will not be able to adapt to all the changes that take place. One of the reasons why lifelong learning has become so important is the increase of technology. For example, there are many elderly citizens that do not know how to use computers or cell phones. Today computers and cell phones are major necessities in everyday life for many.  It is important that teachers are continually learning new things to teach their students. Not only do the students learn new things everyday, so do the teachers. The students can teach the teachers new things and help them learn from a different perspective. Learning something will benefit a student for life because they get to take what they learn and teach others. The students have an opportunity to take what they learn from each grade and apply it to future grades. Commitment to the learner  I don’t think anyone can be an educator if they are not committed to their job and their students. Teaching takes patience, time, dedication, and other special talents. The significance of a teacher’s commitment to his or her students is big on their development.  I believe it is very important that teachers have a relationship with each and every student. The teacher needs to treat each and every student equal and as an individual. This helps the student excel if they know their teacher is there for them. Spending time with each student and learning their qualities and strengths will deepen the relationship. There might be a student with really low self-esteem about reading, but their self-esteem about wildlife may be sky high.
