Digital Elevation Models are interpolated to a uniform grid from digitized contour maps, and land cover is derived from classification of satellite and airborne digital imagery. Digital elevation models are created nationally for the United States by the U.S. Geological Survey. Land cover (NLCD) is served nationally by the U. S. Geological Survey and locally for some states, such as the Illinois geospatial data clearinghouse Land cover data formats will vary from SDTS ArcGrid Erdas Imagine (.img) shape file tiff (geo-tiff) Raster images can be displayed in ArcGIS using either ArcMap or ArcScene SDTS format must be imported to coverage or arcgrid using ArcToolbox The other formats are supported directly without conversion Ce Et Yew Inet. It can also be used in other models, such as solar insolation interception, avalanche prediction, and hydrology/fluvial processes. Slope can range from -1 degrees (flat) to 90 degrees (steep)!!
