Legislation Impact on retail marketing management environment 1. Sherman Antitrust Act (1890) It prosecuted monopolies and price-fixing cartels. If the ability to dominate competitors is limited, then the system because more subject to forming new competitors. Federal Food and Drug Act (1906) 2. Clayton Act (1914) Set the foundation for the regulation of business competition. Made aware the dangers noncompetitive retail practices. It was set in place to diminish the relevance of monopolies and promote competition and rivalry. Federal trade Commission Act (1914) 3. Robinson-Patman Act (1936) Set in place because of the fear that large retail firms were taking advantage of deals from manufacturers not available to small retail firms. It lessened competition and forced manufacturers and suppliers from giving discounts and special treatment to some and not others. Wheeler-Lea Act (1938) 4. Lanham Trademark Act (1946) Prevents the piracy of trademarks in foreign countries and the foreign companies ability to extract payment from an American company selling the same goods and services once they enter the American market. The act has only been relevant when it negatively affects trademark infringement abroad. National Traffic and Safety Act (1958) Fair Packaging and Labeling Act (1966) Child Protection Act (1966) Federal Cigarette Labeling and Advertising Act (1967) National Environmental Policy Act (1969) Consumer Product Safety Act (1972) 5. Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (1975) An act that governs warranties on consumer products by making clear misused warranties and disclaimers from merchants. This in turn allows the Federal Trade Commission to enforce laws on merchants and protect the consumer. Childrenā€™s Television Act (1990) Nutrition Labeling and Education Act (1990) Telephone Consumer Protection Act (1991)
