Harold Washington Library Center Kaitlyn Davis Visiting the Harold Washington Library, on State Street in downtown Chicago was an exciting and interesting experience because I had the opportunity to receive a library card for the first time and tour a new library. I usually go to my local library as a waiting area or sometimes to get homework done. But after visiting the Harold Washington Library it opened my mind up to the different things you could do there. My first impression when entering the library was that it was large and it had an unusual amount of floors because the libraries around me have about 3 floors or less. The first task that I did when I got there was getting a library card. I never cared for a library card until after my visit because I had no use for it nor did I go to the library often enough to even think about getting one. It was explained to me that having a library card is beneficial for me because if I wanted to, I could borrow books from them at no cost. Though I buy books from a bookstore I still think that having a library card is great just in case there comes a time when I need it. Soon after I received my library card we started the tour. I learned that beyond books, the library provides easier access to digital resources, educational programs, and community events, making it a community for education and social engagement. This library allowed me to gain more knowledge about the free resources around me. I know now that if I ever need to do more research about my career interest or any other interests that I have I could go there to learn more about it.
