Title: Loneliness as Cause and Effect of Problematic Internet Use in Grade 11 Senior High School Students I. Objective The purpose of this study is to examine how loneliness causes problematic internet use and how it leads to social isolation and depression of students. Also how Internet use affects communication and social interaction. The researchers aims to find out what are the causes of loneliness, the effect of it to the life of the student, and how can individuals resolve it to have and optimistic life. Il. Research Problem Technology has constantly developed bringing with it different changes in the society. The field of technology affects all aspects of human life. People, especially students, are using it for entertainment, communicating with others, and gathering informations. According to Kim, LaRose, & Peng, (2009); Yao & Zhong (2013), uncontrolled usage of internet enhances loneliness and because the youth has a higher level usage of internet they are more likely to suffer from emotional loneliness. Likewise researchers Skues, Williams, & Wise, (2012) revealed that a student who has more Facebook friends has a higher level of loneliness. In relation to Kim J, et.al (2009), it was mentioned in their study entitled "Loneliness as the cause and the effect of problematic Internet use: the relationship between Internet use and psychological well being" that one of the major motives of an individual using the internet is to relieved loneliness and depression or simply psychological problems. It is also stated in their study that individuals who are lonely are more likely to use internet in abusive or problematic way which leads to negative outcomes such as avoiding social contact and interactions instead of solving their loneliness problem. Loneliness is a serious dilemma. It is not as simple as we know it. According to Psychologist Amy Sillivian, it is an epidemic that has an impact into both mental and physical health. Also, Psychologist Guy Linch, stated in one of the "TED Talk videos about family" that loneliness is as bad as smoking. It is not healthy for everyone and it has involve using internet in a bad way. If aggressive using of internet continue to increase among students, then probably our world would be in a big problem. This is the reason why the researchers are conducting this study to find out the causes and effect of loneliness to such things and to help those students manage and control their usage of internet. This research aims to find out the origin of the problem and to minimize it. Ill. Theoretical Framework
