She seems to be carrying this over-bearing guilt on her shoulders but in reality, Lady Macbeth is reliving the events on the night of Duncan's death. Malcolm's English army then marches into Scotland right to Macbeth's castle, where the soldiers are told to cut down tree branches from Birnam Wood to camouflage themselves. Macbeth can no longer trust anyone, and his followers are joining the rebels. As Macduff's army approaches, Macbeth is informed that Lady Macbeth has committed suicide. Macbeth's messenger tells him that Birnam Wood is moving closer to Dunsinane castle; Macbeth senses a defeat. Macbeth warns Macduff that he cannot be killed by a man born a woman. Macduff proceeds to tell Macbeth that he was born a woman due to the fact he was "ripped" from his mother's womb, and because of that he was able to kill Macbeth. Macbeth was then slain by Macduff and Macduff carried Macbeth's severed head to Malcolm, who he declares King of Scotland. Quote Analysis 1. "Out, damned spot! Out, I say!" (Lady Macbeth, Scene 1) 1. Out, damned stain! Out I tell you! 1. This is showing Lady Macbeth's state of mind. The spot represents guilt because there is not actually a spot, there for she is hallucinating. She is hallucinating blood on her hands from the murders and trying to wash off the blood. 2. "She should have dies hereafter; There would have been a time for such a word." (Macbeth, Scene 5) 2. She should have died at another time. There would have been a better moment for such news. 2. Macbeth's comment illustrates that there is no purpose to life. He is not upset of Lady Macbeth's passing, but rather is mad at the time it occurred. Quote Analysis 3. "Thou wast born of woman but swords I smile at, weapons laugh to scorn, brandish'd by man that's of a woman born." (Macbeth, Scene 7) 3. You were born of a women. I smile at swords and laugh scornfully at any weapons wielded by a man who was born to a women. 3. Macbeth is not scare of Macduff, even if he had weapons because he had to of been born of a woman. If you are born of a women, then you cannot hurt Macbeth. At this moment, Macbeth is confident. 4. "Tell thee, Macduff was from his mother's womb untimely ripped'd." (Macduff, Scene 8) 4. And let the demon you've been serving tell you that Macduff was prematurely ripping from his mother's womb. 4. It is told that Macduff was "not born of a women" because his mother had a sea section. One of the apportions said, if not born of a women shall harm Macbeth. This led to Macduff killing Macbeth and taking his leadership.
