Computer System Scenarios Computer System Scenarios Paige Bishop IT205 Jackie Burton January 21, 2006 1 Computer System Scenarios Scenario 1 For Sarah’s Flower Designs, a recommendation for the IT system would be to have a newer desktop installed, which is configured to work similar to a minicomputer, and a handheld computer for Kim, the delivery driver to carry. The desktop should have software loaded that will enable Sarah and Mark to keep track of inventory, sales, customer information, order history and employee information. Software that will allow the store program to interact with internet access so that billing can be done electronically will also need to be installed. The ability to allow the desktop program to interact with internet access will enable Sarah the ability to take internet orders in the future. The handheld computer for Kim should have the ability to link to the desktop/minicomputer and get up to date delivery information, directions, and payment information while deliveries are being performed or Kim is away from the store. This type of system is upgradeable, for business expansions, but is not too much computer for the small business to handle. Scenario 2 SBI Corporations will need an IT system that is larger and offers more availability, therefore the computer system that is recommended is a mainframe computer system and laptops. This type of IT system will enable the company to manage the 300 employees and keep up to date information for clients readily available. The software should be able to interact with the internet and allow clients to have access to their information on a consistent basis. Using satellite as their internet access will speed up the process of information to view, and the amount of information that can be exchanged will be much quicker also.
