Material and Process Selection: Considerations for Non-Traditional Processes and Materials, Study notes of Mechanical Engineering

Information on various non-traditional manufacturing processes and the factors to consider when selecting materials for each. Topics include geometry, loads (tensile, compressive, shear, pressure, cyclic loading, and fracture), weight, cost, manufacturability, quantity, thermal issues (temperature, conductivity, and thermal expansion), and electrical issues. Discussed processes are fused deposition modeling (fdm), stereolithography, and rapid prototyping. Students will learn about the characteristics and applications of each process and how to make informed decisions regarding material selection.
