Answer the following questions to verbalize your understanding of the teaching cycle. 1. In which stage/s of the teaching cycle are the students involved? Explain. In the teaching cycle, students are involved in various stages, which include: Identifying Objectives: During identifying objectives, we probably already have a good idea of what knowledge or skills the students need to learn or what we want our students to learn during our time with them. We are involving them so that it will be aligned with their learning. Planning Instruction: In planning instruction, it is important that we have mastered the content of the lesson that we are about to teach. Teachers can involve students in the planning process by seeking their input on activities, resources, and assessments. It is also beneficial to be familiar with our student’s knowledge, how they learn, what they can do, or simply their strengths and weaknesses. Implement Plan: This is the stage where we will conduct the learning activities that we have prepared during the planning stage. In this stage, there is still a possibility that change is needed even though we carefully and delicately planned the lesson because individuals have unique needs in the learning and work environment; consider the weaknesses and strengths. There are fast learners and slow learners. We must every now and then check whether the students have understood what we are doing or are they still following the lesson. Check For Understanding: Teaching is about helping students learn. Their facial reactions and verbal cues help in assessing whether or not the students understand and can move on to another concept or topic. If not, we might need to give a more elaborate explanation, more examples, or whatever you think is needed based on the students’ reactions. To be called as productive teacher, we always think of our students. It is not basis how far lesson you take in class but it’s a teacher ability to address students’ learning needs and unlock their full potential. 2. Which stage/s of the teaching cycle requires the teacher to reflect about teaching and learning? Explain. Reflect on teaching: We must evaluate every teaching period that we finish. It is important to reflect because this is the time we will know if the objectives were achieved. Where are the implemented strategies effective? How can instruction be improved? Because if the objectives were not met, then we would need to plan again. Think again about what we need to do differently in order to achieve our objectives. Assess learning and reflect on the results: This stage gives us a concrete measure of what the students have learned. We need to reflect on the results. What can you learn about student learning and teaching practice based on the results? After assessment and reflection, we will once again identify the next learning goals and so the cycle continues.
