MONTGOMERY COLLEGE, ROCKVILLE Physics, Engineering and Geosciences Department ES 240 – Scientific and Engineering Computation Spring 2009 PROJECT THREE Write a Matlab Script and several functions to accomplish the following: What to submit:  All Matlab codes through which you generated your figures and results send to uche.abanulo@gmail.com  A short report (2-3pages) explaining the concepts and theories you exploited, as well as your analysis and comparisons 1. Consider the system of equations: 5x + 2y – 7z = -2 3x – 2y + 4z = -9 x + 10z = 9 Determine the values of x, y and z using a) Matlab’s inverse divide method b) Cramer’s rule c) Calculating inverse of coefficient matrix, and solving the equations by using this inverse matrix. d) Naïve Gauss Elimination (step by step using colon operations) e) The Naïve Gauss Function f) Gauss Jordan Method Compare all the different methods in terms of a) Solutions b) Complexity c) Accuracy 2. Consider the matrices a) Compute the inverses of A and B using Gauss Jordan Method (step by step in Matlab) b) Compute the determinants of A and B by hand and using Matlab’s built-in function and compare the results c) Compute the product and element-wise product of A and B by hand. d) Compute the product and element-wise product of A and B using Matlab and compare with C. e) Discuss the difference between the product and element-wise product of two matrices f) Determine whether A and B are commutative and explain. g) Compute (AC)(BC)T manually and compare with Matlab.
