Litmus paper test is made way before the urine reagent strip. First known use of litmus was around 1300 CE by Spanish alchemist Arnaldus de Villa Nova. The blue dye has been extracted from lichens since the 16th century. The word "litmus" comes from the old Norse word for "dye" or "color." B. By holding a piece of specially treated paper, or litmus paper in. a urine sample. The paper will change color to show how acidic or alkaline the urine is which can be compared to a chart to identify the result. C. If the paper hasn't been dipped in the urine properly. D. One would be if the one who reads or compares the paper to the chart is color blind or did not dip the paper in the urine for an exact time.
