An Analytical Essay: Men and Women Communication Differences Student Name Foundation Course # Tutor's Name Educational Institution Department dd mm yyyy An Analytical Essay: Men and Women Communication Differences There are definite differences between men and women and in the ways for their communication process. There are countless jokes that are based on such a premise, TV Shows that reflect it, daily experience, and academic scholarship that prove it. What is the cause of the differences? The divide in communication between men and women is seen by the fact women are more discussion oriented, while men are more action oriented. A main reason for this is formed in childhood by the way relationships develop. Girls when making friends with other people focus on communicating to connect. Therefore, talking is an essential part of the process. They share secrets, talk about their experiences, open up about their problems and discuss them. This is essential to their growth and development. Boys take a very different route to friendship. Their friendships are just as deep, but different. Firstly, they tend to create large groups, and their focus is on their joint activities, more than on conversation. This difference in youth leads to very different communication styles when they are adults. As youths, their conversations were largely girl- to-girl and boy-to-boy, when they now start to communicate man-to-woman this is a major opportunity for misunderstanding. Adult women now communicate primarily through dialogue, by sharing and discussing emotions, decisions and problems. However, as adults much of the direction of their communication is directed to the males in their lives. Males, however, have not learned these patterns of communication, and are still more action orientated. To them communication is simply to achieve some goal, or it is meaningless. Research does indicate that these are the common traits in men and women, that cause communication difficulties between men and women. In general, men and women have communication differences, because of these early patterns that form in childhood and set in adulthood. The basic issue is “talk versus action”.
