Metropolis Film Review The film "Metropolis' ' is a significant milestone in the science fiction genre of cinematography and film. I believe it was the first to pioneer the expressionist style of avant garde cinema, complemented by the exaggerated body movement that allows us to throughout analyze each character, while introducing several tropes that are now common within science fiction films today such the evil twin, mad scientist, villian understanding the extent of their harm, and the hero and heroine. I believe that the usage of chiaroscuro, set design, and mise en scene are revolutionary in cultivating a film that is hauntingly beautiful within its expression. "Metropolis' ' established tropes such as the evil twin, plot twists, and the futuristic city aesthetic that is adorned with jagged cityscapes and flying cars. Yet within all of this evolution we see similarities between today and the past when this film was made. The quote “ The mediator between Head and Hands Must Be The Heart'' is significant in understanding the moral concept of this film. It sheds light upon the oblivious affluences of the protagonist and the unacknowledged hands that toil to sustain his opulent life. Similarly today thousands of people work to a great point of exhaustion just to sustain life, yet the people and the companies they work for profit off of their diligence, it is clarity of the exploitation of the working class. Ifee like from a symbolism perspective, the worker showcase the diligence of the working I believe that the film's disturbing undertone was a sign of the great extent that expressionism played, it’s nightmare sequence of everything being wonderful and the notion of ignorance is bliss coming to life, to discovering the frightening truth of the real society and the hands that make up the head , to the chaos ensuing is the psychological emotional realism that made the film groundbreaking. Additionally the psychological emotional realism in the film plays a prevalent role in thoroughly comprehending the extent of the metaphor of the film, the dramatized makeup and the heavy steps of the workers with their heads down while alternating between shift showcases
