Download Restoring Europe's Landscape: Treaty of Paris (1814-1815) and Congress of Vienna - Prof. A and more Study notes World History in PDF only on Docsity! 09.30.10 Treaty of Paris (1814-1815) - Ended the French Revolution - The European powers got together and ended the war and set up a new geographical and political structure called the Bourbon Restoration. - King Louis put things back to the way things were in 1792 before the Terror. - There was not a punishment for France ending the war, except they lost Haiti, Trinidad, and Tobago. - France didn’t have to pay for the war. - The Treaty lasted for a year because Napoleon left and then came back for 100 days. - The Bourbon Restoration went to a Constitutional monarch. Metternich and the Congress of Vienna (1814-1815) - The meeting of European powers that was lead by Metternich. - Metternich was from Austria and was a very intelligent and savvy broker. He was a representative from Prussia. He set up a balance of power where no single state was the main power. He believed that Europeans needed to work together and not encourage revolts. - Congress was a short-term success, but a long-term fail. Poland was unstable and became nonexistent after Napoleon set the King of Poland up as the Czar of Russia. Britain and the Netherlands - Both Protestant with royal connections - The Netherlands used to be an Austrian territory. It created a buffer zone between Britain and France. It was a major power in the industrial revolution in Japan because it was the only country that Japan did not banish. - They tried to marry royalty together, but William I (Dutch) married a Russian woman in stead. Congress system- Britain, Prussia, Russia, Austria, and France all kept checks on each other. Kind of like the UN. Restoration of Europe - Church
