Also, this essay will analyze my own comprehension of effective conscious leadership, provide a summary of results of self assessments and an analysis of organizational behavior. Characteristics of Conscious Leadership The characteristics of conscious leadership that Raj Sisodia defines in his video Conscious Capitalism Unpacked (2019) is strength, enthusiasm, love and care, flexibility, long term orientation, emotional intelligence, systems intelligence, and spiritual intelligence. It is valuable to withhold each of these qualities to perform conscious leadership. “Higher purpose, stakeholder integration, conscious leadership, and conscious culture and management are the four key pillars for conscoius capitalism (Schawbel, 2013).” Those pillars are valuable and must not be neglected or else it will not be able to reach full potential. Strength defines by moral courage that a leader obtains. A leader must also show love and care towards others to reach their full potential of conscious leadership. "Conscious Leaders are the ones who inspire loyalty and consistently high performance in their teams (Anderson, 2015)." A leader will inspire more by showing how important they will impact the future. It is vital to show your team that you encourage long term orientation. It creates a clear understanding of what goals are ahead of them. Emotional, systems and spiritual intelligence will grow within conscious leadership. Historic Management Theories One of the historical management theories that influenced the field of organizational behaviors is scientific management. "Scientific management was based on the belief that productivity is maximized when an organization is rationalized with precise sets of instructions based on time-and-motion studies (Griffin, Phillips, & Gully, 2020)." Fredrick Winslow Taylor is one of the founders of scientific management. It influenced organizational behaviors based on how to study the jobs that employees do. It created a way for managers to train their staff efficiently rather than training themselves. Another historic management theory is the Hawthrone effect. "The Hawthrone effect is when people improve some aspect of their behavior or performance simply because they are being assessed (Griffin, Phillips, & Gully, 2020)." It proved that workers tend to work a little harder when aware of being observed. It showed a spark in their performance. It created a new understanding of employee satisfaction. Self-Awareness, Self-Concept, and Emotional Intelligence "Emotional intelligence is an interpersonal capability that includes the ability to perceive and express emotions to understand and use them, and to manage emotions in oneself and other people (Griffin, Phillips, & Gully, 2020)." Emotional intelligence plays a huge role in enabling effective conscious leadership. Demonstrating emotional intelligence shows that a person is capable of managing their feelings and others. Self-awareness is valuable to conscious leadership by being aware of surrounding feelings, especially oneself. "The ability to understand what others think and feel, knowing how to appropriately persuade and motivate them, and knowing how to resolve conflicts and forge cooperation are some of the most important skills of successful managers (Griffin, Phillips, & Gully, 2020)." Self-concept is about knowing who you are. A conscious leader should be knowledgeable of who they are and what their beliefs are. It is vital to have self-awareness, self-concept, and emotional intelligence because it enables the basic concepts of conscious leadership.
