MGT330 Team Management Activity and Reflection Management for Organizations MGT330 Introduction My name is Krystal Gonzalez and I am the new manager for My local Amazon Packing facility. I will be managing a team of 90 packers and 10 supervisors. Below I will lay out my management plan to manage my team in an effective manner. Planning In planning on how to staff and manage my packing warehouse depends on multiple factors. I need to use all the five steps of planning to make sure I create the best plan possible for my warehouse. First, I need to analyze my environment in the warehouse. I will have a fast paced packing warehouse where my employees will be packing products ordered by customers. Products must be packed and shipped out very quickly to help meet high demand and the Amazon Prime two shipping promises of short shipping times depending on where the items are shipped. (“Prime Delivery”, n.d.) The next step in planning is to forecast future events. For the warehouse this could mean being prepared for increased shopping events like prime day. Holidays also bring in increased sales like Christmas and even Halloween. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic it is important to think of how that can affect the amount of orders that will come in and the amount of people I can have working at any time. The third step of planning is to determine my organizations goals. My major goals is to get as many products packed and shipped as quickly as possible without incident. Incidents would be broken or damaged products as well as the wrong products being shipped to customers. Incidents also refer to employee incidents. I want to ensure my employees are working in a safe environment and all OSHA standards are adhered to. (“About OSHA | Occupational Safety and Health Administration”, n.d.) The fourth step is to develop my plans for the warehouse. By using an assembly line type of system to keep the warehouse organized it will help me delegate work to certain areas. Using a computer bar scan tool will help mark packages with the information needed to keep them organized. The bar scan tool will make the items that need to package in the box and when and where it will be delivered to. I will organize the warehouse by item type and create departments for the items. The last step in the planning process is to allocate my resources. This means deciding what employees will do what and where my budget needs to go. Of course, I need to keep in mind the cost of maintaining the machines an equipment and keeping stock of products and essentials. Next I need to budget for employees hours and keep in mind that I will need more man hours during busy seasons verses slow seasons. I will schedule people mostly part time or regular full time during off season and plan to either offer overtime or hire extra seasonal employees during holiday times. Organizing When organizing my warehouse I want to follow the blue collar assembly line job design and make sure the work is streamlined as much as possible. Each of my ten supervisors will be in charge of their teams of 8 to 10 employees under them and supervise their tasks. I will have teams assigned to areas of the warehouse to work on specific tasks. I will have a team in charge of incoming orders to print the labels and send them to the corresponding department for item packing. I will have teams in each section of the warehouse to To create a control process, I need to look at the goals for my company and how I can measure those goals to make sure they are being met. Our measurable goals will be how many packages we package and ship each month and year. We will measure how many packages were packaged in error and how many items were packaged late. We also will look at how many incidents we have in the warehouse as well. Measuring all of these will help us measure our overall success. We will strive to increase out number of packages packed and shipped and decrease and errors and incidents. Using the bar code system and scanners will help measure this by collecting the data in real time as things move. Also, all proper reporting of errors and incidents will help us measure and learn from those mistakes to prevent them in the future. I can also measure the budget used on employees worked hours verses the number of packages being processed to help me adjust the man hours where needed. Conclusion To run a successful warehouse, I believe using all of the systems I have laid out will lead to success. Making sure I have a clear plan and measurable goals will help keep my warehouse operating efficiently. Setting up my employees with orientations and training will help retain good employees and reduce costs in recruiting and hiring in the long run. The many benefits and career development opportunities will also help employees stay with the company longer. Enacting all of these things will help me run a successful warehouse and create a great environment as a manager. References BaackD, .R, ei lyM, .&,MinnickC, (.2014).
