Understanding Modulation and Demodulation in Telecommunications, Slides of Software Engineering

Digital Communication SystemsTelecommunications NetworksSignal Processing

This presentation outlines the process of modulation, where a low frequency signal is combined with a high frequency carrier wave for transmission. the roles of modulating, carrier, and modulated signals, definitions of modulation, and types of modulation including Amplitude, Frequency, and Phase. Demodulation is also discussed as the reverse process of separating the original signal from the carrier wave on the receiving end.

What you will learn

  • What is a modem and how does it relate to modulation and demodulation?
  • What is modulation and why is it used?
  • How does demodulation work and what is its purpose?
  • What are the three types of modulation and how do they differ?
  • What are the roles of modulating, carrier, and modulated signals?

(Behrous A. Forouzan) Process of Modulation Types of Modulation jodulation Digital madulation Amplitude Frequency aateei =) modulation | modulation | modulation Amplitude • The distance of signal/wave from the rest of the crest • Maximum displacement of point on a wave, which is a degree or intensity of change Frequency Modulation In Frequency Modulation, the frequency of the carrier signal is altered in proportion to the message signal while the phase and amplitude are kept constant. Phase Phase describes the position of a wave/signal relative to time zero Phase Modulation In Phase modulation, the phase of the carrier signal is altered according to the low frequency of the message signal, whereas, frequency and amplitude remain the same. Modem (Modulator-Demodulator) A modem – a portmanteau of "modulator-demodulator" – is a hardware device that converts data into a format suitable for a transmission medium so that it can be transmitted from one computer to another. Modulation and Demodulation are usually integrated into a single device called a Modem Thank You
