Module 3: Rocks and Minerals, Assignments of Earth science

1. Minerals form from novel combinations of elements. These combinations can be facilitated by both geological activities, including volcanoes, plate tectonics, and water-rock interactions. The article was discussing minerals. Its topic was the mineral biodiversity of Earth which was unique and cannot be replicated anywhere in the cosmos. Where some group of researchers led by Dr. Robert Hazer, predicted that Earth has more than 1500 undiscovered minerals.

Such resources mined up are coal, copper, gold, silver, and sand. However, mining poses environmental risks that can degrade the quality of soil and water, which can end up effecting us humans if not taken care of and many of the damages are irreversible once they have occurred. On mining some of the soil can affect the quality of the water because of those chemicals will be mix on the water flowing in a river and the result is water pollution. Also excessive mining can cause landslides during calamities because the soils are not that strong to hold and support the trees that may fall. So, let’s practice on how to conserve using the minerals that we use every day. Use the 3R’s to preserve the other minerals that may use to prevent mineral exploitation.
