Download Country's Death Rate & Life Expectancy: Population Analysis & Comparison with US and more Exercises Sociology in PDF only on Docsity! Population, Resources, and the Future Assignment #2: Mortality & Population Structure Your assignment is to report on the mortality and population composition of your assigned country. As with previous assignments, this exercise requires finding sources of population/demographic data in the library or from a reliable source on-line. Use only reputable academic sources. Do not use sources such as wikipedia or hearsay. If you can not find the appropriate data come talk to me and I will point you in the right direction. Please give yourself enough time to complete the assignment. If you wait until the night before your assignment is due, you run the risk of not being able to come to me for help and/or producing work of poor quality. Complete the assignment individually. Be very careful not to plagiarize written material.* You may take data from population reference books, but be sure to put written text into your own words. Additionally, provide complete citations of all source(s) of the demographic data used. Complete citations include the author(s), title of publication, year, page numbers and table numbers for each data source. You also need to be sure that it is clear to the reader which information is found in which data source. Please answer the questions in the order they appear, labeled with the appropriate question number, typed (note: the calculations do not have to be typed, however, be sure to print clearly), with page numbers, and double-spaced. Staple all of your work together and show all calculations. A hard copy of the assignment should be turned in. No electronic copies will be accepted. The written portion of your assignment (excluding calculations and citations) should be approximately 3 pages in length. Use correct grammar and spelling to form complete sentences that in turn form complete paragraphs. Do not paraphrase or quote written text. Put the material in your own words. 1. Compute and interpret the Crude Death Rate for your country for 2 different time periods – the most recent that you can find and the oldest you can find. Your grade will be partially based on how large of a time interval that you report (although this will vary by the development of your assigned country – the more developed the greater the time span should be). Are the 2 crude death rates in your country high, moderate, or low compared to other countries around the world during the same time period? (Be sure to explain your answer using empirical data & use RAW data for CDR calculations.) 2. Report and interpret the life expectancy for males and females in your country for 2 different time periods – the most recent that you can find and the oldest you can find. Again, your grade will be partially based on how large of a time interval that you report. Note: you do NOT need to find raw data to complete this question. You may simply report measures that have already been calculated for you, but always provide a complete citation of the source of your data. 3. Compare the mortality of your country with that of the U.S. What is the difference in the expectation of life at birth? Why do you think this is the case? (Hint: Examine differences by age. Also, think back over what you have learned this semester and try to apply these concepts to the differences you see in your data. Try to back up your assertions with empirical data.) 1 Docsity.com
