My Thoughts on ENGL 1101 This semester in ENGL 1101, I experienced the very basics of college literature. I believe that I learned a ton from grade school lessons and this class has been a helpful refresher of all that. Ever since the first day of class, I have been using this class as a medium to fill my brain with the knowledge that will assist me for the rest of my college career. After the preliminary essays, we started working on our four major essays. These essays were important in molding my writing experience because they were each so unique from each other. There was a description, comparison & contrast, process analysis, and an argument essay. The essays were very helpful because of the feedback we received after turning them in. This feedback allowed me to learn from my mistakes and become a better writer through experience. I was reminded of so many useful grammar issues such as comma splices and subject-verb agreements. We also read quite a few scientific essays that corresponded to each of the topics mentioned earlier. They were helpful by showing me how different essays could be structured. We also went over research paper guidelines. There was extensive emphasis on the bibliographical areas which I completely forgot about from my past teachings. I got some good practice because we had to use and site sources for our argument essay. The rules for citing are very numerous, so our instructor showed us a very useful website that showcases all the different citing situations among other things. My experience in this first semester of english has been an invaluable experience that I will benefit from for the rest of my life. It will come in handy greatly when I am doing reports and research for other classes. The school system has made a great decision by making this class required as the first of a series of literature classes.
