Sophia Co 02-20-23 RWS Cargo: A Parent’s Love Improvised Bloody, a man comes to his senses and finds himself and a woman in a car crash, in the middle of a forest. As his vision clears, he identifies that the woman reaching for him is actually a zombie. And so, he frantically struggles to get out of the car. As the realization sets in that the female zombie is actually his wife, he also quickly comes to realize the danger their infant daughter is in, in the back seat. After failing to unlock the back door, he decides to first resolve the problem regarding his zombie wife by killing her. Then, the scene cuts to the father who seems to be in a trance, presumably still in shock over what just transpired, when his daughter begins to cry, prompting him back to reality. He sits on the car’s trunk for a few minutes, hugging the baby as a means of comforting the infant and himself. After which, a glimpse of the wife’s dead body is shown as the man peels off the “mother” sticker from the car which he then gives to the baby. The man examines his bite wound and with a sorrowful expression looks out into the horizon, worrying about the safety of his child as he realizes that he will soon become a zombie as well. With a new resolve, he began to mark all the “safe” areas in a map. Then, as he checks the now-bandaged wound, he wrote “3 hrs” on his wrist, implying that he only has three hours left until he completely turns into a zombie. With a baby on his back, he began his journey in the woods. In travelling, he encounters a pile of raw, bloody meat, which he then puts in a plastic bag and ties to his pants. Later, with a crying baby, the man comes across a house. And in the house’s front lawn, he attempts to find something to appease the wailing infant. Finally, the infant quiets down as she is faced with a pink balloon being inflated with helium. After which, the man continues his journey. With a pink balloon tied to his backpack and a walking stick in hand, the man reaches a field with tall grass and he collapses. On the ground, he writhes in pain and agony as the bite’s effects fully manifest itself. Then the scene cuts to the same plastic bag filled with raw, bloody meat which is found on one end of a walking stick lodged to the man’s backpack. And the man, now a zombie, walks forward as he reaches for the bag of raw meat dangling in front of him. As the zombie father reaches a clearing, he is shot from afar. Three people, two burly males and one blonde female, approach the dead body, and as the two burly men walk away, the blonde female comes closer to examine the corpse’s plastic bag of raw meat, walking stick, and wrist. Still confused, she is, however, called over by her companions. As she starts to walk away, she hears an infant’s cry and the blonde female hurriedly walks back to the corpse, and finds the corpse’s infant daughter with the words “My name is Rosie” written on her belly. The woman takes Rosie and shows her to the two men. After which, she holds Rosie while the two men bury the dead body of Rosie’s father. Hope can be unimaginable in bleak times. And even more shocking is the extent, individuals can go to for others, even in times of great fear and a need to put oneself first. With Rosie’s father, he was given hope by his deep need to protect Rosie and keep her alive, and he does so, even as the task consumes his remaining time as a conscious human. And after Rosie’s father is shot, she finds hope and safety in the arms of the blonde woman who takes her even as the possibility of Rosie simply being a burden, in hard enough times, comes to mind. As humans, we live life knowing we are bound to be in tough situations, some even seeing nothing but bleakness in their futures, however true this may be, even more evident is the
