Basic Skills in Volleyball

truly excel at the sport. Here are the basic skills you need to learn to be a competent volleyball
player.

Underhand Serve - is one of the basic techniques in serving. The player
will hold and assist the ball with one hand and the other hand will swing to hit the ball in an arc F
motion below the waist.
Overhand Serve - technique in serving in which the player will toss the
ball on the air with one hand and hit it with other hands above his/her
head.
Jump Serve - is an advance technique in serving in which the player
increases the power and height of the serve by jumping high after the
ball is tossed in the air and hitting the ball with extreme power.

Il. PASSING - is done with the objective to move the ball to a teammate called a setter. It is the
first touch by the team. The passing skill is performed on a ball that has been served and on
a ball that is attacked by the opponent.
Techniques in Passing:
Forearm Pass - involves hitting the ball in a controlled manner to your
teammate.
Overhead Pass - it is done by hitting the ball with two hands using an
overhead arm position to pass the ball to your teammate.

V. BLOCKING - is defined as deflecting the ball coming from your opponent’s attack hit.
Blocking in volleyball is one of the least taught yet most important skills. It is the first line
of defense against attacks from the opposing team and creates less space for the back
defense to cover.
