Network Operating Systems and Network Software: Functions, Advantages, and Disadvantages, Study notes of Computer science

An overview of network operating systems (nos) and network software. Nos enables multiple computers on a network to access shared files and printers, while network software helps set up and build networks, provides access to network services, and enables administrators to manage users and data storage locations. Examples of nos include microsoft windows server 2016, microsoft windows server 2008, unix, linux, mac os x, novell netware, and bsd. Network software has become more adaptable with the introduction of software-defined networking (sdn), which isolates software from hardware. The advantages and disadvantages of nos and the functions of network software.

Download Network Operating Systems and Network Software: Functions, Advantages, and Disadvantages and more Study notes Computer science in PDF only on Docsity! Networking Operating System NOS runs on a server and allows the server to handle data, users, groups, security, applications, and other functions of the network. The basic function of NOS is to allow multiple computers on a network, usually a LAN, a private network or other networks to access shared files and printers. Microsoft Windows Server 2016, Microsoft Windows Server 2008, UNIX, Linux, Mac OS X, Novell NetWare, and BSD are some examples of Network Operating Systems. Advantages  Servers that re centralized are extremely stable.  New technology and hardware enhancements can be easily implemented into the system. Disadvantages  Dependence for most activities on a central location.  There is a need for routine maintenance and upgrades. [Chakraborty, A. (2019, October 17).] Network Software Network software provides a wide variety of software for computer network design, deployment and operation and monitoring. Traditional networks were hardware-based with embedded software. Software is isolated from hardware with the introduction of Software Defined Network (SDN), making it more adaptable to the ever-changing existence of the computer network. Functions of Network Software  Helps to set up and build networks for computers.  Enables users to gain seamless access to network services.  Allow administrators to add or exclude network users. Helps to identify data storage locations and enables users to access the information. [Ram, V (2018, July 13).]
