NR 327 short comment on this scenario - A 42 year old male who is a long time patient with our practice with a medical history to include hypertension, hyperlipidemia, breast cancer, RA, lower back pain, and insomnia. Medications include Ambien, Simvastatin, Clonidine, oxycodone, warfarin, Lasix, and Methotrexate. He reports today with redness and swelling in his left leg and foot. Upon my assessment of the patient the system alerted me to a recent ED visit for a fall at his home. I was able to see that this was just 3 days ago and x-ray and labs were completed. Due to the lab results (elevated uric acid) I was able to diagnose gout. I ordered Probenecid for the gout, as I entered it into the EMR I immediately got an alert that there was a serious drug interaction with one of her current meds.
