Throughout the past eight weeks I have gathered a wealth of knowledge. I have learned the depth of knowledge and preparation that goes into a practice change. I am happy to share what I have learned over the past eight weeks. Week 1 I have to say that this week I learned a lot about where and what I want to do as an NP. I realized that there are a lot of areas of improvement in the oncology field. I learned the research that goes into developing new procedures and how long it takes to implement evidence based practices into everyday procedures. I realized that I want to be better and learn to listen to my patients more and the staff I work with to always be abreast of new ideas and procedures. I developed my PICOT question and I am learning through my daily practice ways that I can develop new procedures and investigate new ideas. Week 2 I have to say that I have had quite a few problems while writing my PICOT question. I feel that I have a hard time narrowing things down. While developing my population I felt as though I was going too big. I want to involve all cancer patients. I want to see how it affects all of them. However, I feel that my timeline would never be long enough, and I need to go smaller. I feel like I make my questions too confusing too. I get so hung up on the wording that I do not get my point across. I found so much help on the collaboration Cafe. I feel like you can address many issues in my current work setting with the PICOT question development. I feel like you can use PICOT questions in simple staffing and supply Nr 505 Weeks 1_8 reflections 5 are the same, protecting basic human rights. I feel as though this week’s lesson pertains to every day nursing practice. All patients need to be treated ethically with respect. Whether they have a diagnosis or are participating in a study. The need for ethical care is a standard in the scope of nursing practice. Week 7 I feel that presenting program results to a local community group and stakeholders appeals the most to me because I feel like the people that need to hear the information most are those that are being effected. I think that if the information was presented to a group of oncology patients they would have the ability to rally for change as well and request what was presented. Therefore changing the way. I feel that I could actually share my finding with my supervisor and then with the clinicians within the practice. I am lucky to work within a small group of individuals and I feel that they would allow me to present my findings in a meeting. Then my findings could be shared with the staff. Week 8 I plan to promote lifelong personal and professional growth in the use of evidence-based practice by always seeking knowledge. I feel as though to stay abreast of all that is new you have to have a desire to continuously learn. I want to attend research seminars and conferences. I am a member of the ONS and read my journals monthly. I look forward to the next course in my journey. I do plan to disseminate the information I found to support my project. I worked for a practice in another state that introduced palliative care visits with first diagnosis and the program went very well. I am hoping with my knowledge base and my research to present it to my lead nurse to discuss with our physicians in the practice. Conclusion Nr 505 Weeks 1_8 reflections 6 The past eight weeks have been a very rewarding experience. I have learned more that I had thought possible. I have met some amazing people with even more amazing ideas. I am grateful for the amazing instruction and guidance that I received along the way.
