Public Policy Meeting   David Reis College of Nursing, West Coast University NURS 510: Policy Organization and Financing Healthcare Dr. Brenda Jasper May 29, 2022   Purpose of the Meeting      The purpose of the meeting was to hear the US surgeon general Dr. Murthy discussing the impact of the COVID-19 restrictions on youths’ mental health in front of a panel of senate finance committee. Aside from the youths’ mental health, the surgeon general also examined the repercussion of constant mask wearing on healthcare professionals. The hearing also purported on recommendations for expanding telehealth as a mean to improve mental health management.  Key Participants      The hearing was performed by US surgeon general Dr. Murthy, and before senators Steve Daines, Michael Bennett, Sherrod Brown, Ben Cardin, Tom Carpenter, Bob Casey Jr, Bill Cassidy, Mike Crapo, Maggie Hassan, Chuck Grassley, James Lankford, Catherine Cortez Masto, Bob Menendez, Rob Portman, Debbie Stabenow, John Thune, Mark Warner, Ron Wyden.  Agenda Items         The topics on the agenda were teenagers’ mental health during COVID-19, mental health treatment accessibility, healthcare professionals burnout, and the impact of COVID-19 lockdowns and mask mandates, and expansion of telehealth. Meeting Logistics         The hearing was held in person at the Dirksen office building located in the Capitol in Washington D.C. on February 8 of 2022.
