NURSFPX4010 Assessment #3: Interdisciplinary Plan Proposal Instructions. The health care industry is always striving to improve patient outcomes and attain organizational goals. Nurses can play a critical role in achieving these goals; one way to encourage nurse participation in larger organizational efforts is to create a culture of ownership and shared responsibility (Berkow et al., 2012). Participation in interdisciplinary teams can also offer nurses opportunities to share their expertise and leadership skills, fostering a sense of ownership and collegiality. You are encouraged to complete the Budgeting for Nurses activity before you develop the plan proposal. The activity consists of seven questions tha

NURS-FPX4010 Assessment 3-1 Leading People, Processes, and Organizations in Interprofessional Practice (Capella University) lOMoARcPSD|3013804 1 Interdisciplinary Proposal Plan Capella University NURS-FPX4010 lOMoARcPSD|3013804 4 My organization issue is presented in a surgery clinic that’s run under the private practice of our surgeon. This means he’s the one we have to create a buy-in for the upgrade from manual documentation to an electronic health record system. However, we’re glad the resonant leadership is put into place by the provider, and it will help the interdisciplinary team collaborate and implement the project plan. The resonant leadership allows the provider to approach the issue by focusing on the present and being open and responsive without judgment (Cope. V & Murray. M, 2017). This approach will allow the nurses to share their thoughts on the current documentation style, allowing them to use strategies to sell the change. Additionally, the resonant leadership strategy indicates that leaders effectively conflict resolution and can pursue democratic collaboration and affiliative solutions (Cope. V & Murray. M, 2017). Team Collaboration Strategy The IT department will research the most suitable EMR system for the surgery center using the information given by the health care providers and have an orientation for the interdisciplinary team to learn the new system. The surgeon will apply the new EMR to clinical practice and use it to enter referrals and medication prescriptions. Nurses will use the new EMR in practice to enter in vital signs, documentation, and medications and take notes on where else can be improved for the IT department. The anesthesiologist will have a similar duty as the nurses, to test out the new EMR and take notes on the need for any improvements. The charge nurse can review the workloads for the team weekly and indicate if the workload has been reduced. Implementing this project plan requires a collaborative approach to enable the team to work efficiently to achieve the plan's objective. The plan's objective is to reduce documentation errors and nurses' time handwriting the documentation. Each team member, IT department, lOMoARcPSD|3013804 5 nurse, surgeon, and anesthesiologist all have a role in collaboration to achieve the objective successfully. For example, the nurses, surgeons, and anesthesiologists will be testing the new EMR system the IT department picks that's the most suitable to achieve our daily documentation. As the providers test out the new EMR systems, we would take on notes for improvements. Then we can use this information and share it with the IT department to either fix the current EMR system or find a new one. This collaboration and teamwork will best help the interdisciplinary team succeed because we incorporate a trial-and-error environment and involve a democratic opinion from each health care member. Required Organizational Resources Organizational resources are required to have a successful plan proposal. The staffing needs for the plan proposal are already present in the surgery center, which are the nurses, doctors, and the IT department. The equipment needed for this planning proposal is the new EMR system subscriptions and computers. Our organization already has computers for the health care providers, and the cost of each computer can range from $600-$1000. According to digital health, the typical cost of EMR systems is $300-$700 per month, ranging from $3600 to $8400 a year (Folio3 Digital Health, 2021). This planning proposal's overall financial budget request will be an estimated average of $6000 per year being spent on an EMR system. If the organization is not successfully undertaking this plan and the issue persists or gets worse, there will be multiple impacts on the organization. For example, we see around 60 patients daily. Each patient documentation package per visit includes a 20-page package. The pricing now of copy paper is $1,500 for 200,000 pieces. This amount of paper will only last us for half a year. Meaning $4,000 is spent on copy paper alone, excluding the toner for printers to lOMoARcPSD|3013804 6 print out the documentation. Spending the same amount or more financially on paper and toner, why not spend it on an EMR system which can also reduce documentation errors and loss of patient files and reduce health care providers' time on handwriting documents.
