Running head: INTERVIEW & INTERDISCIPLINARY ISSUE IDENTIFICATION NURS-FPX4010 Interview and Interdisciplinary Issue Identification NURS-FPX4010 Capella University Interview Summary Summarize your interview in this section. Be sure to relate concise information about: · health care organization that was discussed was JCAHO · I spoke to S. Smith RN., she is the hospital’s educator and works with the JCAHO department with mock visits and actual visits to fix any problems noted during evaluations · One of the most relevant issues that she spoke of was the time frame. JCAHO surveys on an 8-5-time frame so no evaluations are taking place at night. She believed that this was an error and policies could be followed very loosely by the shifts that are not being evaluated. · The second most relevant issue we discussed was the readiness of the hospital and staff when preparing for JCAHO. Rules that are set in place that should be followed continuously and only refreshed during JCAHO readiness are being retaught and set in place again each time. · JCAHO had completed a mock survey for this facility years before and it had been discussed that the methods of contact and interviewing faculty and staff should be 1 INTERVIEW AND INTERDISCIPLINARY ISSUE IDENTIFICATION monitored and dispersed evenly in each department; the leadership team, however, decided otherwise. They favored the units that had staff members that were vey polished on all the policies, but Mrs. S. Smith RN did not believe that this was the most effective way to conduct the study. · The organizational culture on collaboration is strong per the interviewer; reasons they meet several times with the Nurse Educator and the units during mock surveys. In order to discuss policies and the relevance of them to aid in the success of the survey. · Mrs. S Smith RN spoke of many collaborations and interdisciplinary team experiences. Many team meetings were held with the staff, nurse managers, and administrators in order to find the best practice for the facility. Meetings to organize, plan, and implement in order to reach the goal of success and maintain safe practices within the hospital. Issue Identification During the interview there was much discussion about the importance of planning. Also, the importance of how you approach it and what to do after completing the planning. Next is the proper way of studying all of the policies and the goals that had been set in place years before in an effort for the hospital to run as efficiently as possible. Then, it’s time to act on the set policies and make sure the staff is very well versed on them and follow them at all times not just when JCAHO is due to appear. I consider this an evidence-based interdisciplinary approach that is very important for the success of any projects, assessments or important events. 2
