Molly Sims EDTC 100 Dr. Hebert March 3, 2008 Autobiography Each person in the world has a different calling. One’s personal, educational, and social lives shape the path that they walk down to find it. My family, education, jobs, and interests have all combined to create the path I follow and the person I have become. I was born on February 1,1988 in Lafayette, Louisiana. After four years of living there, my family and I moved to Lake Charles. I began school shortly after the move. It was there that I started to cultivate my interests and discover my special abilities. In school and extracurricular activities I was able to strengthen my creativity, artistic ability, and dance skills. My hobbies developed around the talents I had. I learned to make jewelry and scrapbook in middle school and continue doing them today. I also enjoy being active in clubs on campus, playing tennis, shopping, and travel. I have traveled to many major U.S. cities such as New York, Chicago, and Washington D.C. My family and I also travel to Disney World and Hawaii annually. The cost of my hobbies and travel led to my getting a job in high school. I worked as a sales person at Buckle, a retail store in the mall. I worked on commission, so my level of effort determined how much income I received. I graduated from St. Louis High School in 2006. I started attending McNeese in the fall of that year. I was an accounting as well as biology major before choosing early childhood education. Since my first semester in college I have been very active on campus. I am a member of Rotaract, a community service organization, and Chi Omega Sorority. In Chi Omega I am the Vice president and have also served as the community service coordinator. Due to my heavy involvement in school, I had to quit working at Buckle and find a job that allowed for more study time. Jobs that revolved around children seemed to come easy to me. I have had one job in a church nursery since I was sixteen. Another after school job I did while in college was as an after care worker at the local elementary school my mom works at. Now that I am an education major I have been substitute teaching at Nelson Elementary. These jobs have helped me learn how do adapt my personality to different ages and types of children. Through my work with different types of people in the community as well as through my travels, I have come in contact with many different cultures. The Hawaiian culture was one that impressed me the most. They have great family values. The elders in the community teach the children how to do traditional activities such as surfing and basket weaving. These little things passed from generation to generation represent a type of life long learning that I believe in. I feel that it is important for children to learn from not only school lessons, but also from life experiences. My family has been an influential part of my life, and I know that many children these days are not that fortunate. It is up to the teachers and other authority figures to shape the lives of children with positive values and knowledge.
