The Weeping Woman by Pablo Picasso The Weeping Woman depicts a distraught woman who is grieving and wiping her tears from her face with a handkerchief. The Weeping Woman went on an international tour with Guernica and other works to publicise the plight of the Spanish Republic. It has been part of British historical memory since it was shown here in 1938. In a similar way to his Guernica Artwork, this painting symbolizes the sorrow of war. The agony of the war is shown in this artwork, which also teaches us about the dangers of fascism, which were quite real at the time. The weeping woman is a symbol of global misery, signifying indescribable anguish and pain. The painting's emotional intensity is heightened by the fractured features and the usage of acid green and purple. The deliberately placed tears, blue chattering teeth, and piercing dark eyes reveal a woman who is distraught. Her baby was killed in the bombing of the town. The woman's face is riddled with jagged lines and a self-removing jaw. We are greeted with a mix of brilliant and dark colors that depict both the shock and the death that this woman is surrounded by. The painting is about putting the most raw human emotion into paint, about the violence we feel when we gaze at it. Last Supper by Leonardo Da Vinci The Last Supper (1495-98) by Leonardo da Vinci is one of the most famous paintings in the world. The scene's composition is brilliant in its monumental simplicity; the impact is amplified by the contradistinction in the moods of the 12 disciples as compared to Christ. When Jesus declares, "One of you will betray me," surrounded by the Apostles as they share Passover, Leonardo depicts a high-tension scenario. All of the Apostles are worried because they don't grasp what's about to happen, whereas Christ, aware of his holy purpose, sits alone in transfigured peace. The evening before Christ was betrayed by one of his disciples, he gathered them together to eat, tell them he knew what was coming and wash their feet (a gesture symbolizing that all were equal under the eyes of the Lord). As they ate and drank together, Christ gave the disciples explicit instructions on how to eat and drink in the future, in remembrance of him. Last Supper has become part of humanity’s common heritage and remains today one of the world’s outstanding paintings. The Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh The starry night is one of the most recognized images of modern culture. In Starry Night contoured forms are a means of expression and they are used to convey
