Paper Preparation AssignmentAmerican Military UniversityTourettes SyndromeTopicThe purpose of this paper is to help describe some of characteristics of Tourettes Syndrome (TS) as well as better understand the workings of the mind for those dealing with this type of motor disorder. By researching deeper into the subject of TS, this paper will show that understanding TS will benefit scientists when it comes to studying the phenotypic characteristics of the individuals with this disorder, which will in turn aid in a more effective diagnosis of individual patients. Using the applied research method during the course of writing this paper will allow for the evaluation of multiple studies related to the subject of TS in order to prove the necessity of having more data available in thestudy of this disorder. The purpose of using these multiple studies is to show that is a large amount of research on TS, but even so, is still a debated disorder in some of the affects on individuals. Paper Preparation Assignment American Military University Tourette’s Syndrome Topic The purpose of this paper is to help describe some of characteristics of Tourette’s Syndrome (TS) as well as better understand the workings of the mind for those dealing with this type of motor disorder. By researching deeper into the subject of TS, this paper will show that understanding TS will benefit scientists when it comes to studying the phenotypic characteristics of the individuals with this disorder, which will in turn aid in a more effective diagnosis of individual patients. Using the applied research method during the course of writing this paper will allow for the evaluation of multiple studies related to the subject of TS in order to prove the necessity of having more data available in the study of this disorder. The purpose of using these multiple studies is to show that is a large amount of research on TS, but even so, is still a debated disorder in some of the affects on individuals. One of the studies that will be presented in this paper states that there are some positive results when habit reversal training is used as a first-line intervention for children or young people, there can be a similar effect to treatment with medication, with less adverse reactions, however, perhaps due to limited resources, medication may be the treatment of choices (Whittington, et al, 2016, p. 995). Another study that will be incorporated into this paper focuses on the relationship between TS and other disorders, such as OC, ADHD and autism by looking into the phenotypic structure of these disorders. This article discussed that when studying these disorders all together, tics, OC, ADHD, and autism all represented distinct and stable symptom factors (Huisman-van Dijk, et al, 2016, p.143). Furthermore, one of the articles looks deeper to determine whether TS and tic disorder is potentially diagnosed as a motor disorder, when it may be more complicated than a simple TS or tic disorder diagnosis. The researcher speaks about the spectrum and severity of tics, and while the term tic is widely accepted, the determination of Tourette leads to a catastrophic feeling to many individuals (Beste & Munchau, 2017, p. 238). All of the studies, when looked at together, will be presented in this research paper in some way support a better understanding of TS, to include any relationship of comorbidities, as well as diagnosis and treatment options. Thesis The purpose of this paper is to show that by further studying TS, it will lead toward gaining a better understanding about the human mind as well increasing the efficiency of diagnosis and treatment. By reviewing multiple studies, this paper will be able to show that a wide range of research on TS will help to build the best understanding on how to help those that are dealing with TS. This will also be beneficial in examining any existing relationship with other comorbidities and hereditarily identifiable characteristics. The interest in preparing this paper comes from the lack of general knowledge that exists around this subject and advance the understanding of how this disorder affects those dealing with it and what treatments could best help these individuals. Annotated Bibliography Martino, D. & Leckman, J. F. (2013). Diagnosis and Assessment. In Tourette Syndrome. (pp. 359-484). North Carolina. Oxford University Press. The chapter for Diagnosis and Assessment in this book is necessary in my research to lay out some of the characteristics that are used in diagnosing and assessing a patient that may have TS. This chapter also offers commentary on research that is currently available for the definition of the phenotype of TS, which has been analyzed
