Personality Disorders: Definition, Clusters, and Key Features, Quizzes of Psychology

Definitions and key features of various personality disorders, organized into three clusters (a, b, and c). Disorders in each cluster must manifest in two of the specified areas: cognition, affectivity, interpersonal functioning, or impulse control. Cluster a includes paranoid, schizoid, and schizotypal disorders, characterized by odd or eccentric behavior and extreme discomfort in relationships. Cluster b includes antisocial, borderline, histrionic, and narcissistic disorders, marked by dramatic, emotional, or erratic symptoms. Cluster c includes avoidant, dependent, and ocd disorders, often appearing anxious or fearful. Personality disorders are characterized by an inflexible and maladaptive pattern of inner experience and behavior that deviates markedly from cultural expectations and can be traced back to adolescence or early adulthood.
