Caleb Foral Persuasive Speech Topic Topic: Volunteering General purpose: To persuade Specific purpose: To persuade my audience that volunteering is a worthwhile activity, and one that should be required to participate in. Thesis statement: Those who give their time to volunteer for struggling communities are prone to be better candidates for jobs, more likely to continue to help the community, and have a greater sense of fulfillment and gratitude. INTRO I. Volunteering is an amazing extracurricular activity that can benefit multiple communities of people, including oneself. II. It is incredibly simple and straightforward to involve oneself in the volunteering community, and it is even accessible through the university. III. The term volunteering tends to be misconstrued, in the sense that the work that’s expected is time-consuming, boring, or another inconvenience. IV. Those who give their time to volunteer for struggling communities are prone to be better candidates for jobs, more likely to continue to help the community, and have a greater sense of fulfillment and gratitude. BODY I. Those who volunteer are prone to be better candidates for jobs A. Volunteering helps boost resumes 1. “Volunteer work is often just as valuable and important for your career as paid work.” 2. “Listing volunteer work on your resume can demonstrate to potential employers that you are community minded, experienced in working with people from diverse backgrounds, and have a range of transferable skills.” B.
