Problems with plant Nutrition were originally discovered by plants that looked “diseased” a. Leghemoglobin is heme protein produced partially by the plant and part by the bacterium.  “protects” nitrogenase from free oxygen but also allow for sufficient respiration to occur so that ATP can be produced for the rhizobium. 5.
