Nelson Sutherland1 Resumen: Se hace una relación de 755 nombres de plantas descritas originalmente de Honduras y sus equivalencias nomenclaturales aceptadas actualmente. De éstas, 263 son endémicas de Honduras, entre las cuales Haptanthus hazlettii Goldberg & C. Nelson y Phrygilanthus nudus A. Molina R. se consideran extintas. Se propone Haptanthaceae como una familia nueva para acomodar a Haptanthus hazlettii. Asimismo se propone la combinación nueva Spermacoce fruticosa (Standl.) Govaerts var. pubescens (Standl. & L.O. Abstract: A relation is made of 755 names of plants originally described from Honduras, and their presently accepted nomenclatural equivalences. Of these, 263 are endemic to Honduras, among which, Haptanthus hazlettii Goldberg & C. Nelson and Phrygilanthus nudus A. Molina R. are considered extinct. Haptanthaceae is proposed as a new family in order to accommodate Haptanthus hazlettii. Also, the new combination Spermacoce fruticosa (Standl.) Govaerts var. pubescens (Standl. & L.O. Williams) C. Introducción A pesar de que en Honduras no se ha hecho una exploración planificada y exhaustiva de su flora, se han descrito del país más de 700 plantas, algunas de las cuales han resultado ser endémicas. Con la publicación de Cassia mensarum (Leguminosae) en 1951, Antonio Molina R. se convirtió en el primer hondureño en describir una especie nueva nativa de Honduras. Luego le siguió Cyril Hardy Nelson Sutherland (alias Cirilo Nelson) quien en 1982 publicara Robinsonella erasmi- sosae (Malvaceae). Ramón Zúniga Donaire publicó Cuphea cyrilli-nelsonii (Lythraceae) en 1994. En la cita de los protólogos se ha respetado el texto original, el cual ha sido tomado verbatim. Es por esta razón que a veces algunas palabras aparecen en varias formas; por ejemplo ¨metro¨ aparece como mts. o m. (con punto). Lo mismo sucede con la palabra ¨Honduras¨, la cual también ha sido copiada tal y como aparece en los originales, a veces en versalita, otras veces toda en mayúscula y a veces subrayada. Se espera con esto brindar una idea de la manera cómo ha ido evolucionando la cita de nombres en las ediciones botánicas. Resultados y Discusión Cereus schumannii Mathsson ex K. Schum. es una planta poco conocida y a la que, después de que Britton y Rose la pasaran al género Lemaireocereus, nadie más se ha ocupado de ella, de manera que su verdadero status es incierto. Si no fue destruido durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, el tipo debería de estar en el Museo de Berlín-Dahlem. Phrygilanthus nudus A. Molina R. no ha sido encontrada de nuevo en su localidad tipo ni en ninguna otra parte del país, por lo que se supone que se ha extinguido. Igual suerte parece haber corrido la especie de Haptanthus hazlettii Goldberg & C. Nelson; en más de cinco excursiones a la localidad tipo no se han podido encontrar más especímenes de ella. Sólo se sabe de seis musgos descritos originalmente de Honduras, Bryum bursiforme, Bryum standleyi, Campylopus hondurensis, Ctenidium hondurense, Rhynchostegium patulum y Syrrhopodon autotomaius. C.H. Nelson Sutherland et al. (1996: 8) listan cinco especies endémicas de helechos para Honduras. Las plantas descritas originalmente de Honduras se encuentran en su mayoría depositadas en los herbarios de Field de Chicago (F), del Instituto Smithsonian de Ceiba, 2001. Volumen 42(1):1-711 Ceiba Volumen 42(1) enero-junio, 2001 Washington, D.C. (US), de la Universidad de Harvard (GH), del Jardín Botánico de Nueva York (NY) y de la Escuela Agrícola Panamericana (EAP). Muchos de los tipos que estaban depositados en el herbario de la Escuela Agrícola Panamericana fueron trasladados al Instituto Smithsonian. A continuación se dan a conocer las plantas que han sido publicadas originalmente de Honduras. Algunas que se consideraban endémicas, como Anisacanthus tetracaulis y Ocotea jorge-escobarii, han sido encontradas recientemente en El Salvador y Nicaragua, respectivamente.
