TERM 1 Slide 1-1 DEFINITION 1 Good morning/afternoon, Im Emanuel Rivas, or Manny as most of you know me as. And for this PoL, Im gonna be going over is questions like, why am I here? What am I gonna do differently to make next year better? And some contributions that I have made to projects and to HTHI. So yeah lets get started! (Next slide) TERM 2 Slide 2-1 DEFINITION 2 So one of the reasons why I want to be here and love being here is because of the projects. I love doing things like nail wood together, or cleaning up the courtyard, or cutting stuff, basically physical things that dont really require you to think. And I love it since I like seeing the end result, as to what it looks like and what I couldve done different to make it better. Another reason why I love and want to be here is the teachers. The teachers here take their work seriously, but they dont take themselves seriously. TERM 3 Slide 2-2 DEFINITION 3 Like Mariah who will go along with a harmless prank. Like what Nick did to Elijah (Manny tells the story). Another example is a teacher like Jorge, who jokingly tells me hell punch me in the face. Or that hell frame me m\by telling Fran that I threw a punch at him, and shell believe him. And Im inspired by them, they actually care for your learning, like Mariah who tried teaching differently to help me, or Will who will do anything to help you understand what hes teaching. (Next slide) TERM 4 Slide 3-1 DEFINITION 4 One of my top contributions is the Literary Rap Throwdown because of the process. For this project we had to have 4 people in our group, 2 per book. But because my partner (I was reading the Hunger Games by the way) bailed on me, and Tiago came to this school, our rap battle turned into a battle in 3. TERM 5 Slide 3-2 DEFINITION 5 The HGs vs Of Mice and Men vs Dracula. And all of us had to act whereas everyone else they only had 2 actors. And it was fun to go back and forth and edit the footage, as the editor. But at times it was difficult to edit when you had no new footage because someone from your ran off to LA on a 5-day-weekend, Tiago! But eventually it came together, just in the nick of time and this was the end result. (Play 1:00 of video, next slide) TERM 6 Slide 4-1 DEFINITION 6 Another project/contribution that I made was an Unexpected John Cena Compileation, it was for the YouDo YouTube project with Chris. As the title explains we had to make YouTube videos. And for a while me and Tim were doing a documentary based on the project until he sissied out, even though it was his idea. And 70% of the time he was off screwing around with Dr.Don trying to get the 3-D printer to work. TERM 7 Slide 4-2 DEFINITION 7 Leaving me to do just one video, and I got the idea to do John Cena after seeing the Vines on it (Transition to jeopardy game in Ross class with Nick and Angelo). I will show it at the end if we have time. (Next slide) TERM 8 Slide 5-1 DEFINITION 8 Another contribution Im really proud of is my part in the Who Killed Carbon? project. Mostly my job was help make the props, our big project within that was making the fireplace. Out of wood incidentally. And I just like building it, from screwing it together, to putting the wrapping paper on, to having to remake it out of scratch because some people from the other class decided to take our previous fireplace apart for no reason. Unfortunately I dont have any pictures of it because Mia and Hilary (who were documenting the whole project) decided to delete them. TERM 9 Slide 5-2 DEFINITION 9 But it looked like a huge dog house with little badly cut tiny tissue paper that was supposed to look like fire at the bottom. (Next slide) TERM 10 Slide 6-1 DEFINITION 10 One way that HTHI has helped me is channel what I learn into something more visual, like the rocket science project last year w/ Jorge. That helped me see how the friction, the mass, the speed, the acceleration mattered in how it flew. And a project like that helped me see how what we learn really is important, and how we could end up using it in the future. HTHI has also taught me to take my work seriously but not myself seriously, as I mentioned earlier. But that helps me not get board while still focusing on my work. And it keeps the classes rather interesting TERM 21 Slide 10-2 DEFINITION 21 Because to them it looked like I was sleeping, and they didnt know my blood sugar was at an extreme low. So thats something Ill definitely do. As well as try to see lectures and lessons in simlies or analogies, as thats how I learn best. For example (tell the sand thing w/ Mr.Torres). Thats a huge way I learn better. (Next slide) (Come out and say that you'll be switching to University City High School) TERM 22 Slide 11-1 DEFINITION 22 So with that in mind, I thought I would make a slide listing some of my favorite memories while here at HTHI. My most favorite memory is definitely going to the University of Southern California, or USC for college day. And being able to see one of the colleges that I want to go to. And being able to watch the football game with you all was so awesome. And getting In-N-Out was so much fun. TERM 23 Slide 11-2 DEFINITION 23 The bottle rockets project was so fun too. Seeing how they flew and how one slight change in the rocket would completely change how it flew. And seeing if the egg would crack or not. As well as the Literary Rap Throwdown, for the reasons that I explained earlier. Of having to go back and forth to edit and record. Another awesome memory that I have is Dr.Dons immersion last year, which was cooking. TERM 24 Slide 11-3 DEFINITION 24 (Explain the $5 budget, 45 minutes to cook anything contest with winning one of his brownies) I also loved Ross immersion too, which was current events, Seeing the World through Ross Eyes. Just because he introduced me to Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, which I have been watching since he showed it to us. And I find him so funny and so informative. TERM 25 Slide 11-4 DEFINITION 25 Another favorite memory I have is reading through the entire Hunger Games series because as I have mentioned before it has been my favorite book series that I have read. And to be able to read them all for class was amazing. Im so glad I volunteered as tribute to read the Hunger Games. I also enjoyed reading the crucible with Mahonri because of the ridiculous southern accents that everyone was doing. (Next slide) TERM 26 Slide 12 DEFINITION 26 There are many other favorite memories that I have like going to Stephens house and shooting each other with nerf guns. Or playing Magic with Mahnori, or the court case which Jazzy won, because I got Cameron and Joe for lawyers. But yeah, thats my PoL. And Im glad I stayed here another year and got to meet you all and I hope you all do better next year. (Asks for questions, shows John Cena video possibly, end of PoL.)
