Nguyễn Thu Thảo Script: 1.Thu Thảo - Opening: + Most resumes bullet points start with the same words. Frankly, the same tired old words hiring managers have heard over and over—to the point where they’ve lost a lot of their meaning and don’t do much to show off your accomplishments. + So, let’s get a little more creative, shall we? Next time you update your resume, switch up a few of those common words and phrases with strong, compelling action verbs that will catch hiring managers’ eyes. but right now, you might wonder what action verbs are and how to use them, so let us show you in this presentation. - There are fours parts in our presentation: + first, we will show you the definition of action verbs + then we will give you the reason why actions verbs are important for your resume + thirdly you will know how to use them + finally, there are examples to showed - let’s start with part 1, what is action verbs ? + action verbs simply understood as the word that expresses an action such as: like, jump, kick, and so on + In a resume, action verbs are the powerful verbs that propel sentences forward by clearly communicating your skills and experience. They enhance the readability for your resume and spice up the language so recruiters and hiring managers stay locked in beyond the 6-7 seconds they typically spend skimming. 2. Hương Ly 2. I’m here to explain why we should use action verbs for resumes and Cvs: - First, let’s think about reality. When you send your resume to apply to a company, You have a limited amount of real estate on the page and less than a minute to give the recruiters a good impression and that’s will be the role of action verbs in your Cvs. So, how can they so that ? - first of all, they will make sentences and statements in your resume more concise. By using action verbs, you can describe your experience very specifically and in fewer words. - Next reason is action verbs make these descriptions resonate with the reader. - It also helps to create an impact when you're delivering information to another reader because action verbs give the reader a clear understanding of what is happening. When used within a resume or cover letter, action verbs help the application package stand out from other submissions, increasing the likelihood that they will take a more in-depth look at your application package. - Last but not least, Using action verbs will allow you to highlight the tasks you can do. 3. Thanh Thảo 3. let’s move to part 3: tips to use action verbs correctly: - First of all, here are some usefully strong verbs that can be used to describe your skill: - we got power verbs for some skills like communication skills, creative skills, financial skills, assisting skills, leadership skills, teaching skills, technical skills. as you guys can see, for communication skills we got words like translate, encourage. Or for creative skills, we can use the words ``act, found, present”. Or for technical skills, there are “analyze, program, build” to name but a few. You can see them clearly on the table. - Next, here are some tips that can help you use the power words to make your Cv stand out: + use the word correctly:  it is important that you use these words correctly and you know when to use them so make sure you understand the meaning totally before you use the word. Maybe check the dictionary or if you have a friend maybe they can look at your resume too. + avoid some tired, generic resume word. Maybe the reason we choose this word because we have seen or we have read that one from others resume, we see them as our role models and might not be concerned that these words are too generic ( for ex: participated, managed, assisted,..) 4. Hương Thảo The next tips are: + do not make any mistakes: Your resume needs to be perfect. If you make mistakes people will not want to hire you for a job. so make sure that you check these power verbs for their spelling , they should be spelled correctly and make sure you check them for grammar mistakes + be specific on your resume. There are tons of resumes that are sent to the recruiters and they don't have time to read the boring resume, they need details that illustrate the great work you have done, the unique experience that you have . we will give you some examples. Here we got the good version of a sentence:  good: led a team of designers, engineers and writers in the creation of a new blog series + then this is how it looks like when you change few words:  better:  spearheaded a blog initiative that united engineers, designers and writers + and this is even better version of the sentence when you change the structure and use stronger words:  even better: conceptualized and spearheaded a new blog initiative that united engineers, designers and writers - final tips is you should use a variety on your resume: especially with power verbs. you do not want to use a word 10 times on your resume. Moreover, you can show that you have a lot of different words and you know how to use them, so try to use variety 5. Ngọc Trang - To make you guys have a clearer view, here are two examples of resumes. one uses normal verbs, one uses power verbs.
