Download Problem Set 4 - Amendment 37 New MW - Renewable Energy Policy | ENVS 5820 and more Assignments Environmental Science in PDF only on Docsity! ENVS 5820 Spring 2005 Problem Set 4: Amendment 37 ā€“ new MW? Due: Monday 3/28 You are still on the Colorado Governorā€™s Energy and Environment Staff. The Governor sees you in the hall today and says: Nice job on that SBC memo last week. One aspect of Amendment 37 Iā€™m baffled about is what it actually means for renewables: how much new renewables will Amendment 37 result in? Iā€™d like to know the answer by year (2007-2015) and by technology (wind, PV, etc.). I donā€™t need a memo ā€“ just the results, and nice documentation of the assumptions, methodology, and sources. Iā€™m interested only in Coloradoā€™s two investor-owned utilities: Xcel and Aquila. A few suggestions: -You can work alone or in groups. However, turn in one problem set per person. -Make all your assumptions, sources, and methodologies clear. -Turn in a printed copy of your problem set. -Remember: -Existing renewables count towards the requirement. -The in-state multiplier may reduce the effective requirement. -You need to do your own original analysis ā€“ donā€™t just take results you find on the web. -Data on Xcel and Aquilaā€™s 2002 kWh sales can be found on page 463 of the course reader. Xcel is ā€˜Public Service Co. of Coloradoā€™ and Aquila is ā€˜Utilicorp United, Inc.ā€™ -Assume that Xcel will have 600 MW of wind installed in Colorado by 2006, none of it built to meet the RPS (but all of it eligible to be counted towards the RPS). Assume as well that Xcel has 350 MW of hydro in Colorado, and 50 kW of PV installed in Colorado. -Assume Aquila currently has no renewables.
