Running head: PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP Professional Association Membership Grand Canyon University: NRS 430 1 PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP The American Association of Nurse Anesthetics (AANA) The AANAcommits itself to advocating for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) who provide around 49 million anesthetics annually (American Association of Nurse Anesthetics [AANA], 2020c). With such a large patient population, CRNA’s must ensure to provide quality and safe anesthetic care. The AANA meets such standards by providing its members with tools to enhance their knowledge and skills that evidently will enhance the practice of nurse anesthetics. The professional organization provides accessibility to its members to evolve CRNA’s scope of practice, utilize network opportunities, stay informed with the latest updates in healthcare affecting practice, allow for leadership positions in areas of research and legislative affairs and, lastly, emphasize on continuing education. Significance of the AANA and Membership Benefits The AANA’s mission believes in utilizing education and research to advance the science of anesthesia (AANA, 2020d). The professional organization values itself as being the leading source of both education and research (AANA, 2020d). In return, members who utilize such sourcesensure safe anesthesia care and validate the vision statement of the AANA. The foundation focuses on issues like patient safety, quality healthcare services, scope of practice, funding for furthering education, and legislativeissues(AANA, 2020d). In fact, the AANA has the largest Political Action Committee (PAC) in nursing as it advocates for its members by reviewing political proposals affecting CRNA’s scope of practice (AANA, 2019).Members alsobenefit from a wide selection of malpractice insurance, student loan refinancing, and career management (AANA, 2019). AANA funded studies have made remarkable changes in the field of nurse anesthetics and has even led to the incorporation of new standards. The finding thatthere are no differences 2 PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP workshops is too time-consuming for the CRNA, the AANA has also accommodated options to complete these credits through their online courses (AANA, 2020a). Regulated by the Continued Professional Certification (CPC) Program that was created by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetist (NBCRNA), the Core Modules was introduced this year to allow CRNA’s the opportunity to learn about current literature and evidence-based knowledge (AANA, 2020a).Now being a requirement for recertification, theAANA has developed its own unique Core Module program that has been highly recognized by the NBCRNA (AANA, 2020a). The program utilizes microlearning in which information is taught to the CRNA’s in small sections so it can accommodate most busy schedules (AANA, 2020a). Members get the opportunity to enhance their knowledge on all topics fundamental to anesthesia (AANA, 2020a). Most importantly, the AANA’s program can be accessed on any device that is more convenient to the CRNA (AANA, 2020a).Overall, as the foundation sets efforts to validate its mission and vision statement, it provides a myriad of resources that allow for the growth of CRNA’s education and professionalism. 5 PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIP References American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
