Dedie Authement EDTC 100 L Autobiography My ninth grade year was one of great trials for me, and one of inspiration. Right before school had started I had made a huge mistake, but I didn’t think too many people would find out. After a couple of weeks of school, I realized that mistake I had made became the popular gossip among all my classmates. Although I was humiliated, it was the best year of my life. I met a girl named Lauren Spencer, and she was there for me through thick and then. She didn’t just become my best friend she became my sister. She was a wonderful Christian, and made me want to turn my life around. On January 18, 2005 I was saved. This changed my whole out look on life, and I knew then that my life was going to be guided by Christ, not by me. I began praying to God asking what he wanted me to do with my life. He answered by giving me a wonderful teacher. That year I had the best Algebra I teacher any student could have, Mrs. Leblanc. We all called her Mrs. “L”. When she would teacher she would cover everything in every way possible. There was no such thing as a stupid question to her, and if you needed her to stay after school to help you she would do it in a heart beat. She had a great outlook on life. She was a breast cancer survivor, which to me made me think even more highly of her. Someone who had been through so much, but yet kept her head up doing what she loves to do while keeping a happy positive attitude. At that moment in time going through what I was going through I could relate to it. She inspired me to be a teacher not just because I love math but because of her pure joy from seeing us learn. I am a pretty diverse person in a sense that people always seem to have an assumption about me, and then once they meet me they realize how far off they really were. I was born at the Lake Charles Memorial Hospital on November 22, 1989, but I have lived in Sulphur all my life. My dad grew up around the area in Lake Charles, but 9/28/2008 1 Dedie Authement EDTC 100 L Autobiography my mother, Rebecca, had moved around several times, living in Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Texas. My father, Ralph, is an extremely laid back person who loves sports, but he can be quite the procrastinator. My mom, on the other hand, is the exact opposite. She is very high strung in a sense that if you make her mad she’ll stay mad for about three days, and when she has to get something done she doesn’t wait. She does it right then and there. They were both athletes in high school so they do have the love of sports in common. I think I got a little bit of both of them in me. I’m laid back and I am somewhat of a procrastinator, but I get my stuff done with high standards. I am an athlete also, and I love soccer. I’ve been playing since I was nine years old. I played for Sulphur high school, and I also played on a tournament team out of Lake Charles, the Cyclones. Along with soccer I love the Arts. I started taking photography my freshman year, and I loved it so much that I ended up taking it my other three years as well. I became famous at my high school. Several people asked me to do their senior pictures, or if they just needed pictures taken they just asked me. I didn’t mind though because I loved it! Drawing is another passion of mine. I have never taken any art classes so I’m not excellent. I tell people I draw, but I rarely show them my drawings. It is something I do for my own personal enjoyment, and I don’t want people critiquing it. Loving the Arts makes me want to travel all the more. I do love the history behind the art, and I would love to travel to places where art is expressed not just in paintings or in pictures that are in the galleries, but by the diverse people of the city. A city is painted by the people living in it. I have recently traveled to California all by my self. It was an amazing experience. I stayed with a cousin who lived in Orange County, and she was able to bring me to San Diego. That was a beautiful city. Everyone was so active. As we drove along I 9/28/2008 2
