PS1010 UNIT VIII FOREIGN POLICY PS1010 Columbia Southern University Foreign Policy We have learned how the United States utilizes the Economic Policy, Domestic Policy, and Foreign Policy. I will discuss how the United States forms the Foreign Policy and the goals and purpose of it. I will explain the role of the three branches of the US government in the development of the Foreign Policies, and discuss how this policy affects the implementation of isolationism or internationalism and whether or not the media has any influence. Lastly I will talk about how someone’s political affiliation can affects their thoughts on US foreign policies. America has to have foreign policies in place in order to protect the needs and interest of its citizens and to ensure our way of life. For Americans to continue to prosper and enjoy our current way of life we need an organization with the responsibility of protecting our interests. This Department of States function it is to define and write the foreign policy. These policies have a tendency to change when new administration takes over office. The current President lays out a new way forward of preserving the way of life we currently have, and maintaining the peace while influencing the the world.. A more secure and better future will come in part from asserting U.S supremacy and giving other nations the right to determine their futures (Foerign Policy, 2019). The foreign policy will have an impact on all levels of government in one way or another. Groups, organizations, and individuals all have the freedom express their opinions, or lobby against federal law, policy, or actions (Norton, 2015). Trade, foreign travel, and local, state and federal security laws will all be impacted by foreign policy. An individuals party affiliation will impact their views and the way they want to change foreign policies. Both Democrats and Republicans will look at the relationship between the U.S. and North Korea differently and for different reasons. Each party has its own plan to govern the new opportunities as we continue to support the foreign relationships. The U.S has maintained good relationships with a majority of the countries for many years, however partisan politics will greatly impact what steps the U.S. will take in the future. Judicial Branch The judicial branch’s role in foreign policy is ofetn referred to as thoughtless, mostly because its workings of international relations are infrequent. It is the judicial branch is one that checks and balances the executive branch when dealing with foreingn policy changes. Congress’s attempts to act upon the executive branch through procedural technicalities or laws, is most often unsucessful (Mlopusz, 2012).The checks and balance’s played out in Rasul vs. Bush in 2004 where the courts took action to curb the executive power. The courts determined that a determination if foreign nationals were wronfully detained could not be made by the U.S. President Bush’s stated that the U.S did have the authority to make this determination however the courts ruling proved him to be incorrect. Legislative Branch Congress is given the powers to shape and determine what our foreign policies will be from the Constitution. The Constitution also gives Congress the power to ratify treaties, declarewar, and fund military actions. Congress also grants power to committees which elminates the President or Congress from having complete control of the foreign policy. The final decision onthe nuclear deal with Iran was given to congress by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee andgiven a final vote in the Trans-Pacific Partnerhsip given by the Senate Finance Committee.
