PSYCHOLOGICAL DISORDERS QUIZ Somatoform Disorder - History of physical complaints that seem to be psychological in nature. Conversion Disorder - Significant loss of physical function with no apparent reason. Hypochondria - Excessive preoccupation with one's health and constant worry about getting ill. Phobia - A persistent, irrational fear of a specific object, activity, or situation that leads to a compelling desire to avoid it. Panic Disorder - A neurosis characterized by the occurrence of intense attacks of anxiety in specific circumstances and situations and by such symptoms as shortness of breath, chest pain, sweating, dizziness, and fear of dying or of losing mental functioning. Generalized Anxiety Disorder - Characterized by an overall anxious mood lasting at least one month and including such symptoms as jitteriness, sweating, feelings of catastrophe concerning one's family or self, and irritability. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder - Characterized by perfectionism and inflexibility; preoccupation with uncontrollable patterns of thought and action. Major Depression - A mood disorder characterized by change in sleep and eating patterns, loss of motivation and lowered self esteem lasting over a long period of time. Seasonal Affective Disorder - A form of depression occurring at certain seasons of the year, especially when the individual has less exposure to sunlight. Bipolar Disorder - A psychiatric disorder marked by alternating episodes of mania and depression. Dissociative Amnesia - A pervasive loss of memory of significant personal information. This disorder is characterized by a blocking out of critical personal information. Does not occur from injury. Dissociative Fugue - Individual in this state is unaware of or confused about his identity, and in some cases will assume a new identity. Dissociative Identity Disorder - Multiple Personality. Paranoid Schizophrenia - Characterized by delusions of grandeur, paranoia, hallucinations Disorganized Schizophrenia - Disorganized speech or behavior and inappropriate emotions. Catatonic Schizophrenia - Immobility over a long period of time.
